Scripture Texts-

Romans 1

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed throughout the world. For God, whom I serve with my spirit by announcing the gospel of his Son, is my witness that without ceasing I remember you always in my prayers, 10 asking that by God’s will I may somehow at last succeed in coming to you. 11 For I am longing to see you so that I may share with you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 or rather so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. 13 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as I have among the rest of the Gentiles. 14 I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish 15 —hence my eagerness to proclaim the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

 Psalms 78

      Give ear, O my people, to my teaching;

incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

2     I will open my mouth in a parable;

I will utter dark sayings from of old,

3     things that we have heard and known,

that our ancestors have told us.

4     We will not hide them from their children;

we will tell to the coming generation

the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,

and the wonders that he has done.

5     He established a decree in Jacob,

and appointed a law in Israel,

which he commanded our ancestors

to teach to their children;

6     that the next generation might know them,

the children yet unborn,

and rise up and tell them to their children,

7        so that they should set their hope in God,

and not forget the works of God,

but keep his commandments;

8     and that they should not be like their ancestors,

a stubborn and rebellious generation,

a generation whose heart was not steadfast,

whose spirit was not faithful to God.

October Intergenerational Question
What does a living faith look like?

October Memory Verse
Deuteronomy 6:6-9 Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:6-9

I am privileged to be the Pastor of FPC, the husband of Laurie, and the father of Zoe. I feel so blessed to be in a job that I love in a community that brings me joy and life every day. I will not be blogging per se as every text that we come across on Sunday will be a repeat- but every week on Sunday I will post my branching out- a series of questions around the text for Sunday Worship. As well I will post the month’s memory verse and the week’s reading schedule.
